Born in Munich, Germany, fusion guitarist, composer, and singer Leni Stern has reinvented her performing career several times. She first made a name for herself at 17, when she formed an acting company whose radical productions sold out houses across Europe. In 1977, she came to the U.S. to study at the Berklee College of Music, then moved to New York City where she gained a solid reputation as a rock and jazz guitarist before stepping out as a singer and balladic songwriter.
Leni is known for mixing elegant jazz moves with blue-toned, passionate balladry spiced with pop and world-beat influences. Darkly colored and direct, her songs are sometimes challenging, but always compelling, in their emotional honesty; her rangy, vulnerable vocal style and subtle, expressive guitar work provide the perfect complement. Tonight she presents songs from her new CD, Loves Comes Quietly, joined by two masterful musical guests, saxophonist George Brooks and Brahim Fribgane on oud (Middle Eastern lute) and percussion.
