Moving with equal grace through folk, country, pop and Mexican idioms, San Antonio native Tish Hinojosa makes the boundaries between cultures, languages, and musical genres disappear. With a lovely voice that is both sweet and powerful, her genius lies in her ability to fuse popular culture and ethnic tradition into the universals of truth, wonder, and faith.
Her latest CD, A Heart Wide Open (Valley), features 12 new originals, all of them richly detailed, delicious slices of life which range from reggae lilt to Brazilian syncopation to buoyant pop. As with her earlier albums, including the NAIRD Award-winning Culture Swing, Tish writes acclaimed songs that reflect modern America’s multicultural richness with sincerity, heart and a joyous musicality. She's accompanied tonight, as always, by her longtime guitarist/mandolin player, the marvelous Marvin Dykhuis.
