innovative Nordic sounds
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $17.50

One of the leading lights of Scandinavia's lively folk scene, Gjallarhorn weds its roots in the Swedish folk traditions of Finland's west coast with dynamic, expressive contemporary sensibilities to create a truly distinctive sonic blend. With witty arrangements and innovative instrumentation, this quartet creates a mesmerizing musical setting for their medieval ballads, hymns and whirling minuets.

Gjallarhorn features Adrian Jones on viola and mandola, percussionist Petter Berndalen, and Goran Mansson on flutes and recorders -- including the infamous sub-contrabass recorder -- with the incredible, ethereal vocals of founding member, Jenny Wilhelms, soaring above it all. The group has won numerous awards for their first three releases, including the coveted French La Monde de la Musique CHOC for their second CD, Sjofn. Tonight they spotlight tunes from their brand-new album (yet to be named at this writing), whose theme is the magic horse that is a recurring figure in Nordic mythology.
