Alexander Tsyganov is famed as the world's foremost performer of the
three-stringed domra, a traditional mandolin-sized Russian instrument of
Mongolian origin. Holder of an Artist of the Russian People title and the
winner of numerous international competitions over the past 30 years, he
is among the finest contemporary musicians in Russia.
Mr.
Tsygankov is also known for composing a modern repertoire for the
domra, opening up new possibilities for the instrument and setting the
standard for domra technique. His performances range through a
spectrum of musical styles, from classical, Russian folk tunes, Gypsy
music, and Hungarian dance tunes to jazz-inflected contemporary
works.
He is accompanied by his wife, renowned piano soloist
and accompanist, Inna Shevchenko.
