Enjoy some great music and contribute to a worthy cause all at the same
time when classic bluegrass ensemble, High Country, and contemporary
folk duo, Willow Willow, team up to raise funds for Summit Medical
Center's Merritt Peralta Institute Alumni Association.
The
Freight's traditional New Year's Eve gala band, High Country returns to us
in a warmer season! High Country's album, The Earthquake
(Strictly Country), firmly reinforced its status as California's premier band
in the Bill Monroe and Stanley Brothers tradition. With exciting, driving
rhythms, deft picking, and soulful singing, High Country is led by Butch
Waller, who saw his own solo mandolin album, Golden Gate
Promenade (Rebel), gain acclaim. The band -- which recently
celebrated its 36th aniversary -- includes banjo player Larry Cohea,
bassist Glenn Dauphin, fiddler Tom Bekeny, Bob Waller on guitar, and Jim
Mintun on guitar and dobro.
Spinning some of the sweetest
sounds around, charming East Bay folk duo Willow Willow (also known as
Jessica Vohs and Miranda Zeiger) have been singing together since their
elementary school days. This might explain why, although they're not
related, their harmonies often birth the magical third voice -- common to
siblings -- that appears when two voices braid closely together. In
performances that travel through traditional, dissonant folk songs, old
country/rock duets, and original pop tunes, Willow Willow's music sounds
fluid, ethereal, and effortless, commanding silent attention.
