legends from the founding generation of bluegrass
Door 7:30pm, Music 8:00pm | THIS SHOW IS POSTPONED. WE WILL ANNOUNCE A NEW DATE AS SOON AS WE SCHEDULE IT.

Icons of 1950s-1960s southern mountain music, West Virginia natives Everett and Bea Lilly were true driving forces behind the popularization of what was to become bluegrass. After making a name for themselves as regulars on radio broadcasts of the WWVA Jamboree in Wheeling, West Virginia, the brothers began an 18-year engagement at the Hillbilly Ranch in Boston in 1952, where their lilting vocal harmonies and Bill Monroe/Earl Scruggs-styled instrumental approach influenced disciples like Joe Val, Peter Rowan, and Bill Keith. In 2002, the Lilly Brothers were inducted into the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Hall of Honor in recognition of their work as pioneers in bringing southern Appalachian music to New England. (A couple of recently reissued CDs, The Lilly Brothers and Don Stover On the Radio 1952-1953 on Rounder and What Will I Leave Behind on Rebel, testify to their great musicianship and powerful vocal blend.). Now 79, Everett (mandolin, fiddle) still puts on a rollicking good show of stellar bluegrass as it was played in the old days, joined by the younger Lilly generation: his sons Everett Allen on guitar, Daniel on bass, and Mark on banjo, along with Everett Allen's daughter, Jennifer Lilly, on guitar and vocals, plus Rad Lewis on banjo. Come enjoy plaintive old mountain ballads, beautifully harmonized gospel songs, and plenty of sizzling instrumentals in a pure, undiluted down-home evening.
