old-time music ensemble from Alabama

They may have had their tongues in their cheeks when they thought up that name, but make no mistake: Red Mountain White Trash unleashes some seriously straight ahead old-time string band music. A big powerful group with a richly textured ensemble sound, RMWT is infamous for setting toes a-tappin' and faces a-grinnin' with the sheer spirit and exhuberance -- not to mention the excellent musicianship and harmonies. They specialize in wild and wooly tunes collected from older fiddlers in Tennessee and their home state of Alabama, and old-timey blues and ballads by folks like the Carter family and the Delmore Brothers, spicing up the tales of God and the devil, death, and lost love with their own playful humor and unconventional stylings. Jim and Joyce Cauthen, Phil Foster, Jamie Finley, Bill Martin, and Nancy Jackson formed the group over the course of get-togethers in their Birmingham homes in the 1980s; by now they have got three albums, including this years' Sweet Bama, and thousands of grinning fans to their name.
