This evening, San Francisco-based fingerstyle guitar pioneer Danny Heines celebrates the release of his fourth album, What Worlds They Bring. This new work marks a leap into the vast possibilities of world music informed by musical concepts rooted in folk cultures. Long respected in the realms of jazz and New Age music for his innovative, uniquely percussive style of guitar playing, Danny recently began experimenting with bringing together his dazzling guitar work and expertise on the Indian basuri flute with his love for poly-rhythms and the amazing musical palette available through body percussion and throat singing (he's one of the handful of Americans who are adept at this Central Asian art). Diverse musical influences from all over the globe, from Eastern Europe to Africa, inform Danny's complex, multi-layered compositions as he forges new, fresh directions in musical expression. Tonight he performs with bass maestro Michael Manring and his long-time collaborator, (and charter member of Jay Leno's Tonight Show band) percussionist, guitarist, and singer Vicki Randle. |
