fingerstyle guitar festival

The Freight presents three of the world's leading instrumentalists for an evening of inspired acoustic guitar magic. Claus Boessier-Ferrari's discreet and multi-layered playing, fuses jazz, blues, and contemporary rock themes with classical technique. Claus began his career playing in rock bands in the mid-1960s, at the age of 14, in his native Germany. After a conservatory education, he embarked on a solo career, recording five albums, performing throughout the world, and composing for film and theater. Always ready to follow his musical instincts to the dynamic limits of his instrument, Claus moves effortlessly from cool, intellectual lines to shimmering harmonies as well as rousing, archaic grooves. His recent album, Ten, reveals remarkable depth and openness with his astonishing and profound versions of the songs of Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young, or J. J. Cale played on twelve-string, baritone, and resonator guitars as well as steel and nylon stringed instruments. Muriel Anderson combines the music of her mentors, Nashville legend, Chet Atkins and classical virtuoso, Christopher Parkening, with her own heart, style, and gentle sense of humor as she spans musical worlds from flamenco and Japanese koto music to the Beatles and Bach. An Illinois native now based in Nashville, Muriel has released seven albums, most recently, Theme for Two Friends. Teja Gerken began his journey on the guitar at the age of six and became a serious student of the instrument after his family moved from Germany to California in the mid '80s. Weaving together influences of folk, jazz, classical, and world music into a style that is uniquely his own, Teja's compositions employ alternate tunings, two-handed tapping, percussive effects, and other extended guitar techniques, others simply rely on his keen sense of melody and movement. Teja repertoire, while focusing on his originals, is augmented by Irish traditionals, jazz standards, and improvisations on themes by classical composers. Teja recently released his debut album, On My Way.
