The Harmony Sisters -- Alice Gerrard, Jeanie McLerie, and Irene Herrmann -- present their intricate vocal blend and unique arrangements, celebrating the traditional and contemporary repertoire in a vibrant tapestry deeply rooted in American culture. The trio of longtime friends which toured extensively and recorded two classic albums in the early 1980s, have re-released the albums on one CD, Harmony Sisters: the Early Years, and now join forces for a long-awaited reunion. Each brings with them a love of close harmony singing and a fluency that includes American old-time string band styles, blues, bluegrass, Cajun, Spanish, Italian, and classical music -- played on fiddles, guitars, banjos, mandolins, cello, and piano. A native of Durham, North Carolina, Alice, is best known for her much celebrated partnership with West Virginia's Hazel Dickens, and as founder and publisher of the nationally renowned music periodical, Old-Time Herald. A native Californian who performed extensively in Europe during the 1970s and 1980s, Jeanie is currently based in New Mexico and tours with The Delta Sisters and Bayou Seco. Irene, a renowned classical cellist and pianist, is member of the faculty of the University of California at Santa Cruz. |
