Barry and Alice Olivier transform the Freight into Buzzard's Roost, which, they add, is "the name of a mountain in Georgia, and our way of saying that tonight's laid-back evening gives us a chance to sing our favorite songs for new friends and old, in a relaxed setting." The duo has earned a considerable following with solo singing, a dynamic harmony blend, and a strong repertoire that includes Alice's beautiful originals as well as traditional and contemporary folk songs. Barry, a mainstay of the folk music scene since he began singing on his weekly KPFA-FM radio program, has taught guitar to literally thousands of students since the 1960s. Tonight's performance is a fundraiser for the Freight's efforts to build a new home for itself in Berkeley's downtown arts district. |
