genre-blurring innovator w/ vocal ensemble & live looping
Door 7:00 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

Composer, singer, electronics wizard, and avant-cabaret luminary Amy X Neuberg appears with Solstice vocal ensemble to present Amy's "Fill as Desired" ("Beliebig Füllen") song cycle for female voices with live looping electronics. Sung in English, German, and Czech, the songs are based on recipes collected by women in the Terezin concentration camp, cleverly layered with Amy's own texts on fantasy as a means of survival. The music draws from Eastern European folk traditions, German lieder, Weimar cabaret, and experimental vocal techniques.

Increasingly well known for her wildly entertaining "avant-cabaret" performances, Amy uses various electronic devices and her own amazing four-octave voice to construct complex, emotionally intense songs in various styles—from rock to sultry jazz to avant-garde. Combining thought-provoking lyrics, a keen sense of humor, and an undeniable flair for showmanship, Amy's performances are a dizzy mix of complexity, accessibility, and intensity. Amy's most recent CD is The Secret Language of Subways.

Multi-award-winning Solstice (Emily Bender, Becca Burrington, Lark Coryell, Krista Enos, Mari Marjamaa, Kim Warsaw, and Sara Webb-Schmitz) open the evening with a set of their beautiful a cappella world music. Founded in 1996, Solstice performs music in many different genres with an emphasis on world, classical, pop, and jazz—anything from the Macedonian folk song "Shto Mi E Milo" to Chaka Khan's "You Got The Love" is fair game!
