It didn't take us long to figure out that the very last show at 1111 Addison had to be an open mic.
Our old stage with the fraying oriental carpets has supported many an amazing act, but no musicians have been as vital to keeping the Freight's spirit alive and strummin' as the valiant open mic performers. From Mugg Muggles' Hoot Nights and Jim Carter's Würst of the Hoots to Gil "the Dude" Stancourt and the dynamic duo of Suzanne Fox and Jonah Watchman, the Freight open mic has an illustrious history stretching almost as far back into the mists of time as the venue itself. What better way to celebrate the many wonderful years of music, community, and memories that have been generated here than with a good-time, rafter-dusting, open-to-all hootenanny?
Tonight, when we haul open the squeaky old door for the last time, we're hoping to discover waiting outside it a line of guitar-totin performers and eager listeners stretching around the block . . . please make sure you're one of them!
