Known to many from her repeated appearances on the radio show A Prairie Home Companion, Inga Swearingen applies her fresh, luminous voice to folk and jazz elements to create an open, heartfelt spectrum of emotion. Inspired by everything from straight-ahead jazz and bossa novas to American and Swedish folk songs, Inga combines dead-on pitch, natural phrasing, and an infectious, positive spirit to earn high praise from audiences around the world.
Born in a musical family, Inga moved often as a child, living in Sweden, Texas, Arizona, and California, where she currently resides. After studying classical voice technique with mezzo-soprano Jacalyn Kreitzer, she honed her talent as a jazz singer, transferring many of the vocal skills she learned from opera. She won first place at the Montreux Jazz Festival Shure Vocal Competition in 2003, and, in 2005, received the first of many invitations to appear on, A Prairie Home Companion.
Inga's recorded her most recent CD Reverie, with New York jazz favorites, the Bill Peterson Trio.
