acoustic tribute to Yardbirds, Beatles, Donovan & the Who
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

If the Freight appears to be glowing with super-positive vibes tonight, it's probably because we're on a trip back to the era that brought the world The Beatles, Donovan, the Yardbirds, and The Who! Tonight's tour guides are Rubber Souldiers, the RaveUps, Drew Harrison, Al Chan, and Steve Emerson, plus other guest artists, performing an unplugged revue of the music that continues to inspire generations of fans and musicians alike.

Steve Emerson presents the hits that blended folk, jazz, rock, and pop into Donovan's distinct style. Al Chan (of tribute band The Hoo) performs the early Who songs that made Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend famous, covering both Pete's guitar parts and Roger's vocals. The brilliant songs of John Lennon, including some early Beatles tunes, are explored by Alameda-based troubadour, Drew Harrison (of tribute band The Sun Kings).

The RaveUps perform the bluesy psychedelic music of the Yardbirds in an earthy, organic mode that suits acoustic guitars and percussion. From the hits "For Your Love" and "Heart Full of Soul" to the bluesy "I'm a Man," The RaveUps—also known as Chris Solberg, Kit Newkirk, David Seabury, and Bob Lewis—play a high-energy set of unforgettable tunes.

Rubber Souldiers bring their jam-inspired versions of Beatle tunes to the stage. Featuring Lorin and Chris Rowan (of the Rowan Brothers) and David Gans (known far and wide from the widely syndicated Grateful Dead Hour radio program), Rubber Souldiers is a gathering of fine, fine musicians: the Beatles music has never been more creatively and beautifully interpreted.
