taking Sikh spiritual music into the 21st Century mainstream
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

Taking the traditional Sikh spiritual music of his ancestral Punjab onto the world music stage, Dya Singh fuses musical forms and instruments from around the globe to deliver his messages of truth, love, peace, harmony, equality, and justice. Performing on instruments including dang thranh (Vietnamese zither), gypsy violin, didgeridoo, and Nepalese tabla, Dya Singh's group ranges from Sikh hymns and ragas and Punjabi classical music to blues, jazz, world folk, and Australian indigenous music in an evening that promises to be as musically enlightening as it is spiritually uplifting.

Raised in Malaysia, Singh was trained by his father, a great Sikh missionary and minstrel from Punjab. After relocating to Australia, he formed his group in hopes of bringing the profound messages of Sikh spirituality to a wider audience by embracing contemporary world music influences. He certainly seems to be on the right track, with a large following in Australia and numerous awards from the South Australian Music Industry and the Australian World Music Organization, including Male Artist of the Year for his recent CD, 300.
