Thirty years have passed since the death of famed folksinger, songwriter, and activist Malvina Reynolds, yet her songs remain as pertinent as ever. Tonight Malvina's daughter Nancy Schimmel and singer-songwriter Judy Fjell present songs by and stories about Malvina. In addition to famous tunes like "Little Boxes," Nancy has unearthed a number of new songs and stories: tonight she invites the audience to "Sing along with your favorites and learn something new!"
Nancy Schimmel has toured nationally as a singer and storyteller, and is well known in the Bay Area. Brought up in a household full of music and stories, Nancy has been sharing them with the world ever since, as well as adding many of her own inspired originals. With Nancy's verve, wit, social insight, and great songs—not to mention her talent for eliciting audience participation—expect a rousing performance!
A veteran of the folk and women's music scenes, Judy Fjell has sung for San Francisco peace marches, NOW conferences, Montana Cowboy Poetry Gatherings, GLBT Pride in Boise, and New York City coffeehouses. She performs, writes, and teaches full-time, in addition to recording albums like her recent Bird Return. Well-known as a generous and gifted teacher and prolific songwriter, she believes that music can empower individually and collectively, effecting both personal and social change.
