A soulful storyteller, Eliza Gilkyson blends her folk roots with a pop-influenced passion for compelling melodies and a penchant for writing intelligent, deeply personal lyrics, weaving her tales with a voice that's both tough and vulnerable. A strong streak of social and political consciousness runs through Eliza's work, where piercing imagery is couched in gorgeous melodies memorable enough to win her a Grammy nomination in the Contemporary Folk category for her 2004 CD, Land of Milk and Honey, as well as a place in the Austin Music Hall of Fame.
Tonight Eliza showcases songs from her recent live CD, Your Town Tonight (Red House), drawing on gospel, blues, and folk rock to expand her exquisite repertoire with songs that the Austin Chronicle described as "Tender and cathartic to the point of jubilation.
Native Texan singer-songwriter Hayes Carll opens tonight's show.
