Internationally acclaimed, guitar-slinging James "Sparky" Rucker and his harmonica-ace wife, Rhonda deliver an uplifting presentation of toe-tapping music spiced with humor, history, and tall tales. The duo take their audience on an educational and emotional journey that ranges from poignant stories of slavery and war to amusing renditions of Brer Rabbit stories or witty commentary on current events, not to mention a captivating mix of railroad songs, Appalachian music, old-time blues, slave songs, Civil War music, gospel, cowboy tunes, ballads, and original compositions.
An accomplished bottleneck guitarist, banjo-picker, and raw, earthy vocalist, Sparky is also a folklorist, award-winning storyteller, American Civil War historian, and author -- and he can play a mean set of spoons when the spirit moves him. Rhonda provides harmony vocals, wailing Sonny Terry-styled harmonica, and keyboards. Sparky has released numerous albums over the 40 years he's been performing, like the recent Midnight Memories, but it's a must to see him and Rhonda live, in a performance full of heart, soul, and good feeling: in the words of fellow activist and folksinger Pete Seeger, "He'll make you glad to be alive and struggling."
