Look out: here comes the next generation! Vibrant brother-sister duo, Tashina & Tristan Clarridge, may be young, but the fact that they both started fiddling practically before they could speak makes them veterans, relatively speaking. Raised in the mountains of northern California, the pair studied with Megan Lynch, Rob Diggins, Mark O'Connor, Darol Anger, Natalie MacMaster . . . you get the picture. They've released three CDs including a beautiful collection of Celtic airs, strathspeys, jigs, and reels titled My Lily . Between them they've won four Grand National Fiddle Championships, six California State Fiddle Championships, and two Western Open Grand Fiddle Championships, plus countless other honors. Suffice it to say they must be seen to be believed!
A sparkling, studied Texas-style fiddler, Tashina's enthusiasm for a wide range of styles brings a high level of creativity to her playing. Apart from duo work with her brother, Tashina currently performs with the Bill Evans String Summit and with one of the Freight's favorite contemporary bluegrass outfits, Due West. (She'll also be touring with Mark O'Connor this fall!) An eclectic musician, Tristan spans many genres of music with a beautifully expressive style. An inventive cellist as well as an amazing fiddler, Tristan is among the few in the country to adapt rhythmic Celtic and bluegrass playing to the instrument. Recently, he's been playing cello with Darol Anger's Republic of Strings.
