Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Bill Miller's early musical influences came in the form of the traditional songs he learned growing up on a Mohican reservation in northern Wisconsin and the roots music he heard on his family's radio. Over the subsequent three decades he has carved out a unique niche among folk musicians by blending Native American chant and flute with Western folk and blues traditions.
A powerful singer, superb guitarist, and master of the cedar flute, Bill links the two great, often clashing, civilizations by exploring Americana from the native point of view -- outside of the conventional American dream. He recently released two acclaimed albums. Spirit Rain highlights Bill's arresting melodies, inspiring lyrics, and unique folk-rock style. The second, Cedar Dream Songs, explores the deeply spiritual qualities of Native American flute traditions, brought Bill much-deserved recognition by winning the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Native American Recording. He recently followed-up on that honor by sharing the 2006 Grammy in the same
category with other leading Native American artists who released A
Tribute to Mother Earth (Silverwave), an album of newly recorded soul
stirring music that calls for all of us to acknowledge and care for the
Sacred Ground on which we live.
