Whit Smith's Hot Jazz Caravan
Thursday, May 11, 2006
Hot Club of Cowtown guitarist & his new band
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

The Hot Club of Cowtown, sadly, is no more -- but don’t despair! HCC founding member, guitarist and vocalist Whit Smith, has found a new home for his unique version of early American popular music with Hot Jazz Caravan. The new quintet shares both Whit's great chops and his love for jazz, western, and gypsy music, resulting in what promises to be one heck of a lively evening! Recently featured on the soundtrack of the film, Four Dead Batteries, Hot Jazz Caravan takes ebullient Western swing a step farther by emphasizing original compositions and fresh arrangements of familiar melodies. When delivering its irresistible repertoire, the group offers a smooth, lush sound with a big steady rhythm and hot jazz solos from all.

Whit and fellow Hot Club of Cowtown alumnus, bassist Jake Erwin, are joined in Hot Jazz Caravan by guitarist/arranger J. D. Pendley, clarinetist/sax man Jon Doyle and violinist Mike Montgomery.
