Marley's Ghost is back, and they're bringing a brand new album with them! Come help us celebrate the release of Spooked (Sage Arts) with an evening of the infectious fun and truly fabulous music for which this group is famous.
Among the Freight's best-loved acts, Marley's Ghost achieves the seemingly impossible with its audacious blend of English folk roots, gospel, country, r&b, even Scottish bagpipe tunes -- and it all works like a dream! Their new album spotlights a tasty array of tunes, from deft satirical pieces like "Get Off the Track" to the Civil War-era tune "Sail Away, Ladies" to gospel numbers like "Old Time Religion," with an emphasis on the foursome's rich vocal harmonies. In the words of famed composer Van Dyke Parks, who produced this new CD, "The various American and British traditional forms sound as authentic as vintage field recordings, but there's always some unexpected ingredient -- something tangy, piquant or chewy -- being stirred into the stew."
A hotbed of multi-instrumental talent, the group features Jon Wilcox's mandolin, guitar and bouzouki, Mike Phelan's guitars, dobro, fiddle, bass and lap steel, Dan Wheetman's guitar, fiddle, bass, banjo, and blues harp, and Ed Littlefield's guitars, dobro, pedal steel guitar, keyboards and Highland bagpipes -- and all of them are great singers, too! Not to be missed.
