traditional music from Mexico's gulf coast
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

Vital East Bay quartet Cascada de Flores ("waterfall of flowers") presents a sizzling evening of Mexican and Cuban regional music and dance, as featured on their second album, Puente a la Mar.

With their gorgeous vocals, guitars, flute and a variety of traditional Mexican and Cuban instruments like tres cubano, marimbol (related to the African thumb piano), guitarra de son, donkey's jaw bone, zapateado (footwork), cajón, and the indispensable maracas and claves, this quartet has won hearts and set bodies in motion at the Freight in two sold-out and spectacular shows and at our recent Holiday Revue.

Tonight Arwen Lawrence de Castellanos, Sabra Weber, Jorge Liceaga and Jorge Mijangos bring their wonderful, lush sound to bear on son cubano, bolero, tender trova ballads and more, bringing alive a wide variety of music stretching from Santiago de Cuba to the Southern Veracruz countryside.
