Prepare to be swept off your feet by the ecstatic, romantic sound of the John Jorgenson Quintet, as John, a dazzling guitarist, clarinetist, and vocalist, leads his quintet through a mind-blowing evening of hot Django Reinhardt style Gypsy jazz. A man with a continually evolving career, John grew up in southern California, got his first guitar at 12 and was playing professionally by the age of 14.
In addition to his session work with the likes of Bonnie Raitt and Benny Goodman, he was a founding member of the Desert Rose Band and the Hellecasters, and a six-year member of Elton John's band -- but Gypsy jazz is the music that lies closest to his heart. A pioneer of the American gypsy jazz movement known for his Django-channeling talents (he was even tapped to portray the famed guitarist in the feature film, Head in the Clouds), John's original compositions blend the soulful with the sizzling to create a sound that's just irresistible. You can bet it will be hard to sit still tonight when the quintet present their virtuosic take on classics and originals like those on his latest solo album, Franco-American Swing.
