The dazzling fiddle and guitar virtuosity of Liz Carroll and John Doyle sets
the Freight stage alight in an exciting evening of "new traditionalist" Irish
music.
One of the masters of traditional Irish music living in
America today, Chicago-born Liz has been amazing audiences with her
fiddle ever since she won the Senior All-Ireland Championship at the age
of 18. Known for her fiery, inventive performances, Liz has contributed
many self-penned tunes to the repertoire of Celtic performers throughout
the world and won the National Endowment for the Arts' National
Heritage Fellowship award for her great influence on Irish music in
America.
One of the most exciting guitarists in Irish traditional
music today, Dublin native John Doyle made a name for himself with his
striking propulsive style in both the innovative groups he helped found,
The Chanting House and Solas. (He's a fine singer, too!)
Liz and
John just released a duo album, In Play (Compass), but don't pass
up the chance to see this electrifying duo live in the intimate environs of
the Freight!
