timeless bluegrass artistry featuring razor-sharp musicianship & passionate, edgy vocals
Door 7:30pm, Music 8:00pm | Purchase advance tickets: $17.50

Named after Bill Monroes favorite horse, King Wilkie is a Charlottesville, VA-based sextet of youthful artists who have been turning heads in the roots music world for the past few years with their exuberant contemporary take on bluegrass. Rave reviews follow both their live performances and albums like last years Broke (Rebel Records), featuring superb playing, gorgeous harmonies, and a repertoire of overlooked chestnuts, genre standards, and impressive in-the-tradition originals.

Their respect for the music is deep, but rather than preserving it to death King Wilkie elects to inject the timeless themes of love won and lost, loneliness, spirituality, and death with a vibrant energy that electrifies the time-honored recipes, making them fresh and relevant.

Lead vocals are shared by Reid Burgess (mandolin) and John McDonald (guitar). Ted Pitney provides lead guitar and harmony vocals, and Abe Spear (banjo), Nick Reeb (fiddle) and Drew Breakey (upright bass) round out the band.
