Outstanding bay area singer, songwriter, and storyteller, Nancy Schimmel celebrates her 70th birthday tonight -- and everyone's invited! Joined by special guests from the local folk music community and beyond, Nancy performs many of her beloved originals and collaborations, plus a few classics by her mother Malvina Reynolds, some labor songs from late '40s, even a folktale or two. The onstage festivities will also include singer-songwriters Judy Fjell, Fran Avni, Candy Forest, and Bonnie Lockhart, the Freedom Song Network, the Threshold Choir, washboard virtuoso Claudia Morrow, and many surprise guests in this evening of inspiring music benefiting the Freight.

The daughter of famed folksinger-songwriter Malvina Reynolds, Nancy was brought up in a household full of music and stories, which she has been sharing with the world ever since, as well as adding many of her own inspired originals. With Nancy's verve, wit, social insight, and great songs -- not to mention her talent for eliciting audience participation -- expect one of the most memorable birthdays the Freight has ever hosted!
