Very simply put, Tommy Emmanuel is one of the the greatest guitar players in the world.
Even though tonight's performance marks his Berkeley debut, many Freight regulars are well aware his tremendous talent.
In an unprecedented fashion, we have sold-out of advance tickets for the originally scheduled 8pm show and have added a special 5pm show to accommodate additional ticket buyers.
A household name in his native Australia, Grammy-nominated guitar
virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel taught himself to play by ear at age four,
began his professional career in Sydney while in his early teens, and has
spent the following three decades winning loyal fans throughout the world
with his great showmanship, flawless guitar skills, and huge repertoire.
A consummate musician, Tommy was voted Rolling Stone (Australia)
Magazine's Most Popular Guitarist for two consecutive years and has
played with many of the industry's leading artists. He recorded an album with the
legendary Chet Atkins, The Day Fingerpickers Took over the World,
that won Best Country Instrumental Album at the Nashville Music Awards
and was nominated for a Grammy in 1998. (He was also declared a
"Certified Guitar Player" by Mr. Atkins, an honor shared by only two other
people in the world, Jerry Reed and John Knowles). Last year, Tommy
released his most recent album, Endless Road (Favored Nations).
Don't miss this opportunity to see and hear one of the true masters of the instrument.
