Celebrating the release of her new album, Chasing the Sun
(Shanachie), Irish vocalist Karan Casey returns to our stage with her
lovely, masterful interpretations of traditional and contemporary songs.
One of the most distinctive voices in Irish music today, Karan's forceful,
haunting soprano sends a strong social message through her ever-
enlightened choice of repertoire, and her sensitive approach to themes of
love and oppression.
Since the late '90s when she left the renowned
Irish-American supergroup, Solas (which she helped found), Karan has
released several acclaimed solo albums, bringing increasing quantities of
contemporary material into her work. On Chasing the Sun, she
continues along this path, including many samples of her own fine
songwriting while maintaining the acoustic energy and moody lyricism of
traditional Celtic music.
Karan is joined tonight by her long-standing band,
the dynamic concertina player, Niall Vallely, guitarist Robbie Overson, and
multi-instrumentalist Paul Meehan.
