traditional music violin virtuoso celebrates the release of her new "live at the Freight" album
Door 7:30pm, Music 8:00pm | Purchase advance tickets: $17.50

Join fiddle powerhouse Suzy Thompson to celebrate the release of her new album, Stop & Listen (Arhoolie), recorded live at the Freight last spring! A vital member of the Bay Area acoustic music landscape for 30 years, Suzy's exhuberant fiddling and stellar vocals have graced acclaimed roots music bands like the California Cajun Orchestra, the Klezmorim, Blue Flame Stringband, and currently, the Bluegrass Intentions.

Tonight Suzy takes center stage with pieces from the new album, featuring blues songs, hillbilly ragtime, and other selections from her wonderfully eclectic repertoire, tapped from the 1920s and '30s wellspring of American roots music. Bringing her complex grooves and sly humor to the show is guitar goddess Del Rey, known for her stimulating combination of country blues, stride piano, classic jazz, and hillbilly boogie. A four-decade veteran of the folk music scene, Larry Hanks adds his Jew's harp virtuosity and deep knowledge of traditional American folksong styles to the mix. But wait, there's more: the fast, wild '20s and '30s ragtime and slinky blues of Thompson's String Ticklers, which, along with Suzy, features Dan Warrick and Eric Thompson on guitar, Dave Murray on mandolin, Dan Kluger on banjo and ukulele, and Ben Sigelman on cello. Come join the fun!
