Excellent musicianship, quirky compositions and arrangements, and a
warm fusion of bluegrass, folk, blues, jazz, and pop characterize Lyquid
Amber, a quartet from Fresno. The band's sound is centered around the
masterful banjo and fiddle of Evo Bluestein (son of the famed folklorist,
performer, and professor, Gene Bluestein, and veteran of many a roots
band, including The Bluestein Family) and the genre-blending guitar of
Hans York, the innovative German-born multi-instrumentalist last seen at
the Freight performing with Scots fiddle champ Jamie
Laval.
Drawing on deep folk roots to create new musical
landscapes, the quartet achieves a satisfying balance between smooth
airiness and aggressive funk, in concert as well as on CDs like their most
recent, Drops of Rain. Lyquid Amber also features bass player
Kevin Hill and fiddler Eva Scow
