A founding member of two longtime favorite Freight bands, Santa Barbara
singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jon Wilcox is a highly regarded
folk music veteran thanks to his work with Marley's Ghost and the Rincon
Ramblers, two groups known for great musicianship and extreme
eclecticism. Jon continues in a similar vein in his solo work on stage and
CDs like the recent Song Traveler, which ranges from traditional
folk to folk-rock, Celtic music, Scottish tunes, reggae, a Merle Haggard
number and a Dylan tribute, with plenty of clever originals thrown in for
good measure.
Joining Jon tonight is another Freight regular,
Larry Hanks. Larry applies his expressive bass vocals, tasteful guitar, and
Jew's harp to a unique repertoire gathered during more than four decades
on the folk music scene, including blues, ballads, old-time songs, topical
songs from the past and present, and political and environmental songs,
all rendered, in the words of Utah Phillips, "With fidelity, virtuosity,
respect, and a deep abiding love."
