jazz & world music fusion ensemble
Door 7:30pm, Music 8:00pm | Purchase advance tickets: $15.50

Berkeley-based composer, producer, and instrumentalist, Art Maxwell crosses borders to create unusual, haunting textures and juxtapositions with his flute and shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) centered readings of jazz. Tonight Art and his band -- Jeff Feldstein on guitar, Ollen Erich Hunt on acoustic bass, Eddie Marshall on drums, and E.W. Wainwright Jr. on percussion -- perform jazz standards, bebop, and original compositions, many from their notable album, Quantum Leaps.

A flute virtuoso known for the sophistication, swing, and beauty of his music, Art has been playing jazz and classical flute for over 30 years, performing and studying with many great artists in both realms including the legendary saxophonist Stan Getz, Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers, and Pete Escovedo. Over the past few years, Art has thrown himself into composing for and performing on the shakuhachi.
