The Erdemsel Brothers, Omer Faruk and Sinan Ali, bring an amazing spiritual sensibility to their performances as they present an evening of Turkish folk and traditional Sufi music. Hailing from an Istanbul family which has a 500 year legacy of sufism, their passion and deep sense of humanity resonate profoundly with their audiences. Faruk, a singer, and Ali, who plays oud (short-necked lute) and baglama (long-necked lute), learned their extensive repertoire from their father and grandfather, before studying at the Turkish Music Conservatory and embarking on distinguished careers performing with leading traditional music groups in Istanbul, including the Turkish Ministry of Culture's official folk ensemble.
The brothers will be accompanied by the superb ney (wooded long-necked flute) player Ahmet Toz, who is a music teacher in Istanbul and an accomplished performer. Aziz Abbatiello rounds out the talented group of performers with emotion charged, transcendental whirling. Join us tonight for an evening of beautiful, deeply spiritual music with these masters.
