Shana Morrison, who began her singing career with her father, Van, in his Rhythm and Soul Revue, always puts in a powerful performance, her soulful voice and marvelous, sometimes magical lyrics riding on an eclectic blend of Irish folk, r&b, country, blues, and jazz. With an infectious, charming stage presence, Shana ranges effortlessly from beguiling pop to moody wistfulness to no-holds-barred, bluesy wailing. Phil Elwood, the San Francisco Chronicle's long-time music critic, says of Shana: "She has a wide ranging voice that is both powerful and pure. Her vocal inflections, soaring melodic lines and sophisticated use of dynamics are impressive." Tonight's performance showcases songs from Shana's second solo album, Seven Wishes (Vanguard), which has been getting great reviews since it was released in 2002.
