Singer-songwriters Jimmy LaFave, Kevin Welch, Michael Fracasso, Joel Rafael, and others have spent the past several months on the road bringing the good word to towns across the U.S. with an acclaimed tribute show titled Ribbon of Highway -- Endless Skyway: Music in the Spirit of Woody Guthrie.Tonight, they take a break from the narrated show to perform some of their favorite numbers by the great humanist troubadour and labor organizer, as well as their own originals, in a more intimate setting. Roots rocker Jimmy lives in Austin, but his boots are still planted firmly in his native Oklahoma, the source and inspiration for what he calls his "red dirt music." Known both for his rousing rock numbers and soulful ballads, Jimmy has been named "Best Singer-Songwriter" at the Austin Music Awards for two years running. Oklahoma-raised Kevin has been performing for nearly three decades, both solo and with cohorts like Kieran Kane. Michael has been making a name for himself in Austin with his powerful blues- and folk-informed originals and covers, delivered with grace and soul. Joel, a regular participant in the annual Guthrie concert held in Woody's hometown of Okemah, has been burning up venues across the country with his roots music aggregate. Somewhere Woody is sure to be grinning when these kindred spirits light into his great classics.
