Known for their amazing digital dexterity and soulful duet singing, Dix Bruce and Jim Nunally are a duo in the true down-home style: two voices and two acoustic guitars, mixing folk, bluegrass, and country, spiced with warm humor, tight harmonies, and hot picking.
Both award-winning acoustic guitarists, Jim and Dix sizzle, whether they're playing classics or their own traditional-flavored original compositions. Bay Area musician, composer, and teacher, Jim's music roots stretch back three generations to his guitar-playing grandfather.
In addition to his work with Dix, he also collaborates with artists such as Rob Ickes and Sally Van Meter, Bela Fleck, and Alison Brown. Dix's warm stage personality, along with his driving rhythm and lead work, set the tone for the duo's performances. Dix also works solo, and has collaborated with mandolin legend Frank Wakefield and the Royal Society Jazz Orchestra.
Jim and Dix's latest CD, The Way Things Are (Muzix), brings together original as well as traditional folk and classic Americana by Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash, and others, all performed with their characteristic wit, energy, and sincerity.
