Johnny Irion first made a name for himself on the college charts as a member
of the group Queen Sarah Saturday; he's a highly poetic singer-songwriter
with strong Southern roots and country rock leanings. As the youngest
daughter of Arlo Guthrie and granddaughter of the legendary Woody Guthrie,
Sarah Lee Guthrie grew up surrounded by music, naturally finding herself in
the spotlight as the third-generation singer-songwriter in America's first
family of folk music.
Featured on a number of her family's Rising Son label
albums, both as vocalist and as writer, Sarah Lee blends alternative folk
and country music with a hint of soul, drawing on her deep roots and
surrealistic sense of humor. Together, this husband-wife team deliver a
sweet and powerful performance, replete with rich vocal harmonies and
Johnny's fine guitar and dobro playing. Last year the duo recorded an album,
Unity Lodge (Rising Son), with Pete Seeger's grandson Tao
Rodriguez-Seeger. |
