Some of the most exciting experimental music on the jazz scene today is proferred by eclectic saxophone player and composer Jessica Jones and her quartet. Their unique, robust sound was described by the SF Bay Guardian as "Inside enough to lock on a groove, and outward-bound with ears wide open." An eloquent musician who arose from Berkeley High's hotbed of jazz talent to play with everyone from Bo Diddley and Don Cherry to various Haitian and African bands, Jessica brings all these influences into play with her group, creating soundscapes that are energetic and adventurous, enriched by unexpected textures and rhythms while firmly rooted in the jazz tradition. Joining Jessica are her husband and fellow saxophonist, Tony Jones, and percussionist Deszon Claiborne. The quartet recently released the album Family (Nine Winds). |
