Grammy winner - folk music living legend

Ramblin' Jack Elliott, a man who truly has "been there, done that," weaves amazing stories in and out of song, sharing stream-of-consciousness nuggets from the richly checkered career that was launched the day he ran away from home at age 14 to join Colonel Jim Eskew's Rodeo. After several detours, Jack ended up at the side of Woody Guthrie, learning the craft that was to make him a leading figure in the Greenwich Village folk scene, influencing a generation of musicians. During his years on the road, Jack spent time with many luminaries, from Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Phil Ochs to Jack Kerouac and Alan Ginsberg - and he's got stories about 'em all. Like his tale about the afternoon he serenaded a group of schoolchildren on a London railway platform: years later one of those children, rock star Mick Jagger, confessed that the encounter prompted him to buy his first guitar. In 1996 Jack won a Grammy for his album, South Coast, and in 1998 he received the National Medal of Arts. More recently, he is the subject of The Ballad of Ramblin' Jack, a critically acclaimed documentary film directed by his daughter, Aiyana. His latest album, The Long Ride (Hightone), showcases Jack's soulful interpretations of classic and modern western tunes, but there's no substitute for his outrageously improvisational live performances!
