Berkeley's John Dobby Boe constructs an amazing stage persona as the verbal component of a jazz ensemble. A professional storyteller since the mid 1970s, John has been featured at festivals, clubs, theaters, radio, and television, and is the author of Life Itself, Messiness is Next to Goddessness and Other Essays, and (with co-author Alice Kahn) Your Joke is in the E-Mail. Tonight John celebrates the release of his new CD, Sex and Laughter, by blending flights of improvisational jazz with true adventures, fairy tales, folklore, myths, and erotic stories of the struggles between men and women, boys and girls, husbands and wives and lovers, gods and goddesses, even monks and nuns. The jazz is provided by leading avant garde saxophonist Steve Slagle, along with Jason Lewis on drums and John Shifflett on bass. |
