Tom Rozum, Jody Stecher, Amy Stenberg & Suzanne Thomas

In 1927, Victor Company talent scout Ralph Peer traveled to Bristol, Tennessee to record musicians from the southern Appalachian region; known as "the big bang of country music," the legendary sessions that transpired launched the careers of Jimmie Rodgers and the original Carter Family, as well as many other mountain musicians, who were to become country music's first stars. Tonight, join a stellar line-up of some of the Freight's favorite acoustic musicians in celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Bristol Sessions with an evening of Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers tunes. Peerless musicianship, soulful harmonizing, and an all-around good ol' time is absolutely guaranteed to be had by all, with Bellingham, WA dobro whiz Laurel Bliss (you may know her from her Carter Family recordings with Cliff Perry), the superb Kate Brislin on banjo, Bay Area Leading Lady of Bluegrass Kathy Kallick on rhythm guitar, Tom Rozum on dextrous mandolin, the inimitable Jody Stecher on lead guitar (plus anything else that grabs his fancy), Kathy Kallick Band member Amy Stenberg on energetic bass, and Suzanne Thomas, formerly with the Dry Branch Fire Squad, on fiddle. Come let your toes be set tapping and your heart warmed with their amazing, contemporary interpretations of the music that (more or less) started it all.
