contemporary fok & etch-a-sketch artist

Michael McNevin's songs read like short stories -- sometimes familiar, sometimes strange, but always with a pure and vivid eye. A tireless traveler and troubadour, Michael pens humorous and poignant tales of the people and towns he comes across, highlighting a melodic, seasoned voice, intricate guitar work, and a down-to-earth sense of humor. An Etch-A-Sketch Artist of great renown, Michael's music and drawing talents comprise the critically acclaimed artbook and CD, Sketch. A Bay Area native, Michael began his career on the East coast in 1985, where he played the subways and streets of Greenwich Village, as well as the open mic nights at Gerdes Folk City, where actors Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty studied his performance intently while researching their roles as songwriters in the film Ishtar. Re-settling in the Bay Area in the 1990s, Michael is a winner of the Kerrville, Napa Valley, and Columbia River New-Folk Competitions, and is a 4-time winner of the Northern California Songwriters Association's "Song of the Year" award. Michael recently wrote and produced Songs of the Oregon Trail, a six song album that was included in The Learning Company's Oregon Trail educational software package. The album is vintage Michael -- stories of people, full of heart and rich detail, and brimming with humor and irony.
