contemporary folk duo

Sisters Nerissa and Katryna Nields need no introduction to Freightgoers who have caught their many headlining sets or who have seen them opening for Cheryl Wheeler, but for those unfortunate souls who have not seen them yet, here goes: imagine a mixture of high-energy alternative folk music with a country twang, infectious melodies, sophisticated lyrics, heavenly sibling harmonies, and a downright eccentric stage manner, and with any luck you are somewhere near the quirky territory staked out by this engaging duo from Massachusettes. Nerissa and Katryna launched their musical career in the New England coffee house circuit in the early 1990s, where their five-piece band, the Nields, became one of the best-loved indie acts of that decade, with eight albums and hordes of fervent fans to their name. Last year, when a baby and a new dog entered the lives of Katryna and Nerissa, respectively, the sisters decided it was time to break new musical ground with a duo album, the just-released Love and China (Zoe/Rounder), which they celebrate in this concert. With the spotlight on their lovely harmony singing, the sisters perform a series of intelligent takes on the curve balls of life, delivered with all the energy, silly jokes, and loopy dance moves that anyone's heart could possibly desire.
