celebrating the release of her new album, My Mother's Voice

Kathy Kallick has released a dozen albums, which contain more than 60 of her originals, many of which have been recorded by other bluegrass and folk artists. For the first time, Kathy has released an album with none of her own compositions. Instead, My Mother's Voice (Copper Creek) is a collection of songs that Kathy learned from her mother, Dodi Kallick, a prominent Chicago-area folk singer. Dodi Kallick collected a number of great songs which have become standards, and Kathy, through her singing and arrangements, makes them her own. The treatments are based in bluegrass or old-time country music, with forays into blues, Celtic, and other folk forms. Kathy breathes new life into old favorites as well as uncovering a few lesser-known gems, as she passes the music on to us -- much as her mother did to her. Her red-hot band -- Tom Bekeny, Avram Siegel, and Amy Stenberg -- will accompany Kathy along with John Reischman (mandolin), Gene Tortora (dobro), and Brian Wicklund (fiddle).
