The quirky music of Dave's True Story both challenges and defies categorization, but whether you call it "jazz/lounge/pop," "East Village hipster music," or "jazz noire," one thing's for certain: this New York duo swings with a strong groove and refreshing charm all its own. Since 1992, songwriter-guitarist Dave Cantor and smoky-voiced chanteuse Kelly Flint have been offering their jazz licks and clever, short story-esque lyrics about love's more bizarre side to a growing audience, with gigs from Boston to Monterey (they won the prestigious Kerrville New Music Award in 1995) and irreverent albums like Unauthorized (2000, Chesky). If sensual, highly literate explorations of dark lust and stiletto heels sounds like your thing, come check them outwe won't be serving martinis, of course, but you can always wear your smoking jacket.
