Playing the great traditional music of Ireland, Scotland, Brittany, and Cape Breton, Shira Kammen and Pamela Swan's lively, percussive fiddle and piano style gives an inventive edge of the traditional Celtic tunes they love. Also featuring traditional percussion and a beautiful, rare violin d'amore, the Bay Area duo combine exhilarating jigs, reels, waltzes, and airs with powerful songs in Gaelic, Breton, and English. Seen recently on the Freight stage as a member of the "world gypsy music" ensemble Panacea, Shira has earned herself a name in classical and early music with her fiery and graceful fiddle and viola playing. Pamela Swan began her career as a classical pianist before falling hopelessly in love with traditional music over the last few years, collaborating as a singer and percussionist with performers from Darol Anger to Shay Black. Great entertainers as well as musicians, Shira and Pamela met as featured performers at last year's Christmas Revels in Oakland. Tonight they celebrate the release of their first duo album. |
