A true Renaissance (show)man, Gunnar Madsen is an actor, composer, singer, pianist, guitarist, and inveterate prankster, possessing a wonderfully rich voice, endless passion for his arts, and a mighty wacky sense of humor to boot. Never one to sit still for long, Gunnar has created works for opera, theater, and dance companies across the continent, composed music for film, television, radio, and video games, and recently added yet another hat to his head, as film director, with the completion of a 45-minute documentary, Svetlana Village. Widely respected for his work on all fronts, Gunnar has collaborated with folks ranging from the Grateful Dead to Bobby McFerrin, had his music and performances featured on two award-winning hour-long specials on PBS, received seven consecutive ASCAP songwriter's awards, and recently released his second award-winning children's album, Ants in My Pants! Throughout, Gunnar shows that same witty spark and busily percolating creative imagination with which he lit up the a capella world as co-founder of the acclaimed group the Bobs, with whom he recorded six albums and was awarded a Grammy. Tonight he'll be performing original songs like those found on his 1998 CD, The Power of a Hat, an absorbing collection of musings on topics ranging from powerful pants and tongue crucifixion to baseball, old age, and nudity. |
