Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum, joined by bassist, Todd Sickafoose, explore winter's joys and hardships with music from Laurie and Tom's Winter's Grace (Signature Sounds). The album of traditional and contemporary songs of the solstice season ranges from English carols, Appalachian fiddle tunes, and classics from the bluegrass and traditional country songbooks of Bill Monroe, Merle Haggard, and Jean Ritchie to contemporary songs from the likes of Mark Simos, Stephanie Davis, Betsy Rose, and Tommy Thompson. Laurie, a Berkeley native, is one of the most diversely talented artists in traditional music. She is a champion fiddler and a multiple International Bluegrass Music Association Award winner, as both performer and composer. Tom, a native New Englander, now settled in Berkeley, began his collaboration with Laurie when he added his mandolin, mandola, guitar, and vocal talent to Laurie's Grant Street band. Todd, a young virtuoso of the acoustic bass, performs regularly with Laurie and Tom, as well as with Noe Venable and Will Bernard. |
